However, the problem may run a bit deeper. There are ways to correct this manually. Many users have reported problems with HEIC files. Hopefully, Microsoft will deal with this soon. Has any solution provided here worked? Which one? Windows plug in for photos is trash and doesn't work, online tool conversions are a last resort as we need something native on the machine. I would love to have something I can deploy via GPO but its nuts MS still hasn't made this a supported format in their photos viewer.
I lead my user to a converter online as well as it just made it easier. MS is just slacking on this. Already tried that and it failed.
It shouldn't even be a plugin to obtain from the windows store but supported right away. I would ask the Apple users to send you a compatible format, and being an Apple user, I don't find any on my system except wallpapers and backgrounds. Do you know what app the Apple users are using to generating these files? I read that the files in question come from iPhones. Unfortunately, I've just been asked to find a solution, and I've only found solutions in the MS Store.
I'm in the identical situation. As a non-profit "in these challenging times" it's not really an option to purchase a converter for HEIC files, and it's not a good solution to ask our iPhone users to know how to save their images as JPGs. This is an ongoing problem and I don't know if windows updated their support in the recent releases of windows 20h2 or whatever they labelled it as.
If anyone can comment on that it would be nice. Microsoft wants to make you pay for HEVC for all business computers. To be more precise: this laptop is actually my wife's. It's a Dell; we bought it about six months ago so she could work from home, and aside from applying updates, I haven't done anything special to it, I never did any messing around with this problem on it, before it occurred to me to try it out a couple of weeks ago.
I hate that I now need to upgrade when everything runs smoothly. Well I guess I will make my next mission. I don't think so, but I don't know for sure. My own personal laptop, which I was messing around on a month ago trying to deal with this, is at , and I installed the two HEIC codecs from the store. This seems dependent on a few factors based off the iOS device settings tested with iOS I hope I have this correct and this might help someone who has come across this problem.
I think you might have two immediate options, update your version of Windows, or change your iOS settings as above. Let me know if this helps. I deployed this program at my last workplace with a deployment tool like SCCM, etc..
Anything really. There is a ton of command line scripting you can do with it too like set it to be the default viewer. HEIC to work natively. I don't care for the video one as much, i didn't even know until your post there was a video format that had to be supported. I would like to think those services have support for the new apple video format. Picture support is more essential and that never worked natively.
